This workshop will focus on two separate yet related aspects of time in improv:

1) Timeline

How does the concept of “time” factor into our scenes and stories? What’s the time of day, of the year? The era? How long have the characters known each other? How old are they? What are we in the middle of? Knowing what timeline we’re in helps us be more specific and truthful in our improv.

We’ll also have fun moving through time -- “Flashbacks” and “Flash Forwards” to enrich and propel scenes and stories.

The overall question we’ll look at in this workshop is “How long has THIS been true”? This skill makes everything we do in improv come into sharper focus, and makes scenes and stories both easier and more full of detail and fun!

2) Taking Your Time/Slowing Down

Someone once asked Jimi Hendrix what made his guitar playing so unique and powerful, and he replied “I think it’s the pauses”.  What does that mean for us as improvisers?

When we take our time on stage, it gives time for surprising and wonderful things to fill the “empty spaces”.  In this workshop, we’ll work on paying attention to ourselves and each other, and moving through our scenes in a relaxed and confident way.

The stage belongs to you, so make the time on stage YOURS!
